Lydia Gonzalez, 88, of Pequannock, passed away on January 30, 2012.
Born in New York City, Lydia was the daughter of Juan and Flora Garcia. She lived in Spain for much of her childhood and later worked as a seamstress in New York City. She met Angelo Gonzalez through a mutual friend and the couple was married on August 14, 1943. Later moving to New Jersey, the couple raised their two children in Pequannock.
Lydia is survived by her husband of 68 years, Angelo; her son, William and his wife Dorothy of Skillman, NJ; her daughter, Lydia Garcia and her husband Ricardo of Pompton Plains; her sisters, Laura Compos, Frances Vales, and Ysolina Martinez; her grandchildren, Richard Garcia and his wife Jean Marie, Kim Garcia Cunha and her husband James, Daniel Gonzalez and Elizabeth Gonzalez; and her great grandchildren, Matthew Garcia, Andrew Garcia, Christopher Cunha and Samantha Cunha. She was predeceased by her brothers, Genaro, Richard and William Naviera and her sisters, Gliceria Lopez and Lourdes Mendez,.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am Friday, February 3 at Holy Spirit RC Church, Pequannock. Interment will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa. The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains.
